TOURS
The tour offered by Dudato will have a duration of nine days in which tourists will visit Dark Tourism sites spread across the country. Only group travel for 10-15 people will be offered. Tourists will be accommodated in Amsterdam. From there they will be transferred by coach to the sites that are located outside the city.
The following Dark Tourism sites will be included in the tour:
AMSTERDAM DUNGEON
The dungeon is an interactive attraction where actors will bring back to life the dark history of Amsterdam.
BODY WORLD AMSTERDAM
Bodyworld Amsterdam is an exhibition of preserved human bodies and body parts.
ANNE FRANK HOUSE
The house is a museum and a memorial site to remember Anne Frank, her family and the events that took place during World War II.
WESTERBORK TRANSIT CAMP
This site was a Nazi detention and transit camp during World War II.
One of the concentration camps people were transported to was Auschwitz in Poland.
THE WORLD WAR II CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL
Europe's third largest Netherlands American war cemetery.
CAVES IN VALKENBURG
The caves in Valkenburg were used for exploitation of marl and also served as an
underground shelter for locals during The French Revolution, World War II and The Cold War.
DELTA WORKS
The Delta Works are a complex defence system to protect the South-West of the Netherlands against the sea and high tide. The works consist of dams, sluices, locks, dykes and storm surge barriers. They have been built after the North Sea flood1953. Approximately 1,836 people lost their lives and another 70,000 had to be evacuated.
MAUSOLEUM OF WILLIAM I, PRINCE OF ORANGE
William is seen as founder and liberator of The Netherlands. He was the leader of the Dutch revolt against King Philip II of Spain. This resulted in the independence of the United Provinces of The Netherlands in 1648.
